Himachal Pradesh, like the majority of other Indian states, is governed under the 1950 national constitution. The state govt. is headed by a governor who the Indian president selects. The Governor is assisted and advised by the Council of Ministers, led by a chief minister, and accountable to the directly elected Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha). Constitutional Framework of Himachal Pradesh.
The state is organized into districts, with each district led by a deputy commissioner. Districts, in turn, are subdivided into multiple subdivisions, each of which encompasses numerous other levels of local government. The village is the smallest (and most numerous) administrative entity.
